Amy Tagliareni brings a lifetime of commitment to public education, community service, and opportunity for all to her work as a leader in Ankeny.
Raised by a single mother in a small farming community in Wisconsin, Amy learned early the values of grit, determination, and looking out for others. From her mom, a longtime teacher’s aide (now called an associate), Amy saw firsthand the transformative power of public education and the quiet impact of those who support students every day. She also grew up in a family dedicated to local schools, both her grandfather and uncle served on the school board in her hometown, each serving as board president, instilling in her a deep respect for local governance and community service.
With no family resources to pay for college, Amy’s mom took it upon herself to learn how to complete the FAFSA so Amy and her brother could pursue higher education. That experience shaped Amy’s belief that every child deserves access to opportunity, regardless of their background.
Amy lives in Ankeny with her family. Her daughter is an Ankeny graduate, and Amy remains deeply invested in the schools, families, and future of her community.
For six years, Amy proudly served on the Ankeny School Board, helping guide a growing district of 12,500 students and 1,500 staff while overseeing a $200+ million annual budget. In this role, she has prioritized fiscal responsibility, strategic planning, and policies that support student success, safety, and well-being. She served on committees addressing diversity and inclusion, facilities planning, and social-emotional health, and worked collaboratively with parents, educators, and community members to ensure transparency and trust in district decision-making.
Professionally, Amy has spent 15 years working in college athletics and five years in the nonprofit sector, where she continues to serve today. She also taught at AIB College of Business, where she directed the Sport and Event Management internship program and helped students gain real-world experience through hands-on projects, including media days and post-game press conferences.
Amy holds a Master of Science in Sport Administration from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, and an Associate degree from the University of Wisconsin–Richland Center.
